It's been raining buckets at times in Trinidad. ... 27 degrees centigrade (84^F) with significant cloud cover above and soggy wet conditions underfoot.... nc~forever . . . nc~forever . . . nc~forever The Oval, devoid of its characteristic cricket pitch focusing all eyes on "the middle", was the impressive venue for the intercol finale - Naps vs Mucurapo. nc~forever . . . nc~forever . . . nc~forever 300 plus Naps students and another 100 - 200 supporters joined an equal number from the opposition in the Dos Santos stand area to witness the event. A patch of blue with a propensity for amoebic configurations hovered uncertainly above. Horns blared, drums pulsated achieving unpredictable crescendos, voices melded in with the rhythmic cacophony assaulting our eardrums, a whistle shrieked and the game was underway. nc~forever . . . nc~forever . . . nc~forever The warriors in blue and white skillfully controlled the flow of the contest. Individual acts of brilliance punctuated the drama of sound strategic teamwork and an air of controlled confidence projected from the field to the cognescenti in the stands. However, the finish to the attacking plays lacked the ruthlessness to ensure a continous assault on the enemy citadel. We danced and finessed our way time and time again into the zone but did not deliver the coup de grace. nc~forever . . . nc~forever . . . nc~forever Additional drama resulted from the red carding of a Naparimian early in the 2nd half. 10 men played like 12 and the tempo of the game hardly changed. Improved attacking by both sides elicited oooohhs and aaahhhs from the crowd with the Naps group having greater reason to be positive.
