A Great Rain Fell
Jagdip Maraj 1966

I dreamed a great rain fell
while the world was asleep
and washed the earth
and the full rivers flowed
into the vast sea of my heart.

Every drop was taken into my body.
River banks touched; hills and hollows reunited,
and the surface of the earth
became an endless field of grain —
Through all a clear wind blew.

And in this rolling field
men and women were going
to reap another harvest,
and I was there within them
in every cell of every living one.
And I was there within them
in every cell of every living one.
